Depth of Seat:  Just what does that mean? How to measure, comparing apples to apples.

Above is the officer saddle (the same tree is also used in the Freedom, Express and Western Endurance Models).

Laying a yard stick from the front of the saddle or fork, to the back of the saddle, cantle;  take a ruler and from the lowest part of the seat measure up to the yard stick.  This is the depth of the seat of the saddle.

This is despite the measurement of the cantle being 3.5 inches tall.  (As the cantle is put on the saddle tree at the rear which is naturally higher than the base seat itself.) This saddle with the one inch of extra padding in the seat measures or has a depth of seat of a strong 4 inches.

The Saddle above is the Western Endurance, due to the fact that it has a straight cantle binding, this will add 1/2 inch to the depth of seat. This saddle as the extra padded seat.
